Netflix Extended Look GTA 6: Three Episodes Discovered (and then disappeared)

The Extended Look of Grand Theft Auto VI on Netflix, initially accredited to three separate episodes, could have been much more ambitious than expected. A listing appeared on the Portuguese streaming platform page had outlined a three-part structure with different durations: 23 minutes and 37 seconds for the first episode, 24 minutes and 41 seconds for the second, and 18 minutes and 29 seconds for the third. The total would have amounted to over 66 minutes of content, an operation that would allow Rockstar Games to explore in detail the world of Leonida, the game mechanics and, probably, to take an early look at GTA Online. However, the list was quickly removed from the Netflix page. The rumors about the three episodes could have been a mistake in metadata, placeholder content generated automatically by Netflix, or even a leak of news (leak) promptly retracted. There is still no official confirmation from Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive or Netflix about the multi-episodic nature of the project. Despite this, the logic behind the three-part subdivision is clear: a single 20-minute video would be insufficient to address the breadth of content that GTA VI offers – the hype accumulated over the years, the setup of history, the mechanics of play and the preview of GTA Online. The partnership with Netflix, as pointed out by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, was defined as "one of its kind". The transfer of content to the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel six hours after the Netflix release would further extend the exclusive period. Mi convince poco che si tratti solo di un errore nei metadati; la rapida azione di Netflix suggerisce una reazione, anche se incomprensibile, a informazioni potenzialmente dannose per il lancio. L'idea di un "leak" è plausibile, ma data la portata dell'evento e l'attenzione mediatica che ha attirato, sembra improbabile che si tratti solo di un errore isolato. Mi pare più logico pensare che Netflix stesse effettivamente pianificando una struttura multi-episodica molto più ampia per l’Extended Look, forse anche in vista di una strategia di marketing più articolata legata alla partnership con Rockstar e Netflix stessa. Il fatto che la suddivisione in tre parti fosse già visibile nei metadati suggerisce che l'idea fosse almeno in fase di valutazione interna a Netflix prima della decisione finale di puntare su un singolo video, anche se di durata estesa. Mi fa pensare che l’operazione fosse nata come tentativo di massimizzare il valore dell'anteprima per gli abbonati Netflix, sfruttando la complessità del gioco e la sua popolarità in attesa del lancio ufficiale. Resta da vedere cosa accadrà con il video reale: si tratterà di una versione abbreviata, oppure riusciranno a sfruttare al meglio le 66 minuti inizialmente previsti?
