Scandalo Rockstar: dismissed developers and accusations of obstacle to the union organization in relation to the development of Grand Theft Auto VI. The event, which emerged at the end of October 2025, is putting at risk the date of release scheduled for May 2026 of the new title. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) denounces dismissals between 30 and 40 Grand Theft Auto VI developers, considered an attempt to hinder the union organization within Rockstar Games. According to the IWGB, the workers involved were part of a Discord group dedicated to trade union issues and work organization. Rockstar Games denied charges, stating that licensing was motivated by disclosure of confidential information in a public forum, in violation of corporate policies. The company added that the decision was not linked to employee membership or union activity. The controversy lies in the context of the recent news releases regarding Grand Theft Auto VI and security measures strengthened by Rockstar, including the call of employees in the office. According to the company, disclosure of information by licensed employees is a serious violation of trust and a risk to corporate security. Despite denials, dismissed workers and IWGB continue to argue that dismissals are a retaliation for trade union activity. Some former employees organized protests in front of Rockstar North’s headquarters in Scotland, calling for reintegration and denouncing the company’s anti-union practices.
