GTA VI: The Dynamic Climate of Vice City and Leonida, the New World of Rockstar

The long wait for the GTA VI exit approaches the end, with less than 50 days remaining. The new game information continues to emerge thanks to the gameplay images released for a month. In particular, “Game Informer” had the opportunity to dialogue directly with some responsible Rockstar Games: Aaron Garbut (development director/coresponsible of the studio at Rockstar North), Rupert Humphries (VP senior of narrative), Paul MacPherson (VP senior of environmental art), Owen Shepherd (VP of art for lighting and rendering) and Michael Kane (VP of dynamic art). The interview revealed details about the region of Leonida, an environment that players can explore entirely within the game. A central point in the discussion was the weather system. A Realistic Climate in Real Time Rockstar Games aims to offer a meticulous dynamic and real-time climate representation, reflecting the real weather conditions. The goal is to create an immersive atmosphere, where the climate is not uniform throughout the territory of the game. For example, if a Vice City is in rain, a Ocean Beach or Grassrivers may enjoy a shining sun, based on their respective geographical positions in real Florida. As Owen Shepherd explains, vice-president of the artistic direction, "We have completely redesigned our weather system to make every event much more localized and persistent. We really wanted the world to appear dynamically tangible and transmit an unpublished feeling of scale." Tropical Tempest Risk The development team took inspiration from the tropical and humid climate of Florida, characterized by almost continuous sunny seasons and periods of intense and temporal rains. Rockstar is also preparing to include extreme weather phenomena such as hurricanes and hails, with strong winds and flooding. It remains to be seen how these events will affect the gameplay thanks to the RAGE graphic engine. Leonida: Six distinct areas The map of GTA VI includes several regions, including the region of Leonida, divided into six separate areas.
