GTA VI: Legal threat of "Florida Joker" for Rockstar Games

By GTA6 Hub editorial team

A Florida man, Lawrence Sullivan, aka “Florida Joker”, launched a legal action against Rockstar Games, supporting the use of his similarity in Grand Theft Auto VI. The threat comes as a result of a previous litigation with an 18-year-old hacker, Arion Kurtaj, involved in the disclosure of details and footage of the game in 2023. The “Florida Joker” in fact requires 10 million dollars for alleged “sofferences”, “defamation of the character” and damage resulting from the use of its image within the game. Specifically, his ultimatum is that Rockstar must compensate for his damages by January 14. The story resumes previous legal cases, such as the one filed in 2014 by Lindsay Lohan, who supported the use of her similarity to the character Lacey James in GTA V, and a 2014 lawsuit filed by Karen Graven, a reality TV star who claimed the violation of her brand. Despite these legal actions, GTA V has reached an estimated turnover of 7.7 billion dollars with 190 million copies sold. Despite the persistent rumors about a possible release fixed for February 7, 2025 – still without official confirmation from Rockstar Games – it remains to be seen whether the legal threat of the “Florida Joker” will result in an agreement or if it will be brought up to its judicial conclusion. The situation is destined to become a major news, especially given the imminent release of GTA VI, the most anticipated game of the year.
