Rockstar bets everything on single-player: no GTA Online until it is ready

Rockstar Games announced that the first significant update on Grand Theft Auto VI will be coming soon after a year of waiting, with new details to fuel the enthusiasm around the title. According to indiscretions, the attention of the manufacturer is almost exclusively on the single-player component, and for the moment does not provide public discussions on the future online mode. The information comes from the insider Jason Schreier, who revealed that Rockstar does not intend to talk about GTA Online shortly. The current strategy is to focus on history, the world of play and the protagonists – Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval – rather than on the evolution of the multiplayer. This approach, considered the success of GTA 5 Online, aims to maximise the single-player experience as a focal point of promotion. Schreier also suggests that Rockstar might want to avoid microtransactions in the history mode of GTA 6, leaving any in-game purchases and monetization systems exclusively to the online component. The goal is to distinguish clearly the two experiences: a traditional narrative campaign and a multiplayer ecosystem designed to evolve over time. Despite the huge success of GTA 5 Online, Rockstar seems willing to treat the new game as a separate product, with a dedicated promotional campaign and a distinct presentation. This will allow the company to initially focus on the promotion of Grand Theft Auto VI, and then move the spotlights on GTA Online and its contents over the long term. It is a rumor that a marketing campaign specific to the new GTA Online could also be launched, following the success of Vice City.
