GTA VI: Sony's Financial Projects On the PS5 Inevitably influenced by the Memory Rincaro

Grand Theft Auto VI could become one of the main commercial engines for the PlayStation ecosystem at the end of 2026. The dominant position of PlayStation 5 among the high-performance consoles puts Sony among the companies potentially most exposed to the increase in demand generated by the title of Rockstar Games. The expected benefit, however, must be compared with the recovery of memories, which is already exerting pressure on hardware costs. For Sony Interactive Entertainment, the effect of GTA VI could develop on multiple levels. The company would collect commissions from copies sold through its ecosystem, while the activity on PlayStation Network could grow together with software and service spending. The launch could also convince a part of the audience to buy a new PS5 or switch to PlayStation 5 Pro. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive officially set the release on 19 November 2026. The launch platforms are PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. On the US market the basic edition will cost $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition will be proposed at $99.99. The potential growth linked to the game comes as DRAM and NAND prices are supported by the demand for data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence. The increase involves different sectors, from consoles to computers, through smartphones and cars. For hardware manufacturers this scenario can compress the margins and make it more difficult to maintain a regular supply of devices. Sony had already foreseen for the exercise a decrease of 6% of the revenues of the gaming division, up to 4,42 trillion yen. The estimate also reflects the decrease in hardware sales and the higher cost of memory, while accompanying an expected increase in profitability supported mainly by software and services. The picture fits into a phase already marked by the change to the Sony Interactive Entertainment summit. The company has stated that it has secured the necessary memory volumes for 2026, reducing immediate risks in view of the launch of GTA VI. However, Sony predicts that prices remain high in the following year. The strategy followed by the reduction of other costs and the monetization of the wide installed PlayStation base, with software and services called to compensate for the increased pressure on the hardware.
