Take-Two Insiste on Grand Theft Auto VI Price: No Discount in Prospect

There are just over three months left at the exit of Grand Theft Auto VI and those who hoped to buy it quickly at a reduced price may have to review their plans. Take-Two does not seem to be willing to quickly lower the price of the game, adopting a strategy similar to the one already implemented for Grand Theft Auto V. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar Games, was clarified during a CNBC intervention. GTA 6 will officially arrive on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 in the United States, while the Ultimate Edition comes at $99.99. The preorders are open from 25 June and, according to Zelnick, are recording particularly positive results. Take-Two does not count on discounts for GTA 6. During the interview, Zelnick said that the company establishes its own prices and lets the individual stores decide whether to apply any rebates, sacrificing their profit margin. “We set our prices, then the shops can do what they want,” explained the manager. There may therefore be special promotions, bundles with consoles or other initiatives designed by retailers to attract customers, but this would not necessarily mean an official cut of the price decided by Take-Two. Considered the success of Grand Theft Auto V, it is predictable that GTA 6 is included in promotional packages with PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Any convenience of these offers will depend on the commercial policies of individual stores and not on a general reduction in the price of the game. To explain the future strategy, Zelnick referred to the previous Grand Theft Auto V. Take-Two kept the game price for a prolonged period, thanks to high sales and continuous public engagement far beyond the launch window. This does not mean that GTA 6 will begin to cost less, but suggests a philosophy: as long as the product continues to support its value, Take-Two will not hurry to propose a permanent reduction.
