Rockstar announces that GTA 6 is its “ deeper and immersive” game ever, with a revolutionary approach to almost everything that has done so far. The development began with field research: a small Rockstar team traveled to Miami, around the Florida Keys to Key West, carefully studying the environment and people. The team then expanded research with larger teams to film location and study culture, environment and people. Aaron Garbut and Rockstar's art directors spent a helicopter day in Miami, immortalizing Everglades, mangroves, Downtown Miami and beaches. Rockstar interviewed residents, police officers and gang members to understand different perspectives on Florida and Leonida. The strong contrast between wealth and poverty, excess, the culture of the utensle and the tendency of people to flaunt their well-being have profoundly inspired the game. Also the style of the characters, including clothing, hairstyles, make-up and general styling, has been carefully studied to make the protagonists of Leonida really feel part of their environment. The satire of GTA 6 draws inspiration from real elements, such as conspiracy theories and human reactions to everyday situations. Since GTA 6 has been developing for years, Rockstar does not seek to pursue passenger trends. It focuses on ideas that remain relevant at the time of the final release. The goal is to create Vice City and Leonida as places where players can spend hundreds of hours exploring and developing an emotional attachment. GTA 6 continues Rockstar’s approach to the “American Dream”, but with a more realistic turn. Instead of becoming rich beyond any limit, the game focuses on buying a house, supporting the family and repayment of debts. Jason, with his criminal life, is tied to his circumstances. Rockstar mentions drug trafficking and robberies in banks, but the depth of Jason's involvement in this activity is influenced by the player. Lucia, on the other hand, desires only a better life and is not discouraged by anything. Jason and Lucia are designed to complement a dynamic and constantly live relationship. Rockstar wants both characters to be vulnerable and imperfect, without being always just or automatically “heroic”. Lucia is partly inspired by the experience of a Rockstar writer who grew up around strong women in New Jersey and New York. Jason and Lucia were written as young people, full of hope and naive rather than professional criminals. Rockstar describes a “experienced and naive” element in fleeing and embarking on a series of crimes as far as possible. Raul, a more senior and experienced character, introduces Jason and Lucia to larger robberies and more intense criminal operations, also providing local knowledge about the Miami criminal world.
