GTA VI: The Stipendium of Developers Supera i 2 billion Euro – Estimated Shock of SpazioGames

Rockstar Games is investing unprecedented figures in the development of Grand Theft Auto VI. According to a reconstruction based on the available data, the cost of the salaries of the project developers alone has already exceeded 2 billion euros (about 2.1 billion dollars). This figure, which far exceeds the budget of any movie blockbuster and also of many AAA titles, reflects the vastness of the team involved in the development of GTA VI. These are hundreds of professionals – programmers, artists, designers, audio engineers, testers – and development has protracted for years, as demonstrated by the long waiting times between an official announcement and the other. Although Rockstar Games did not issue an official budget, this figure on salaries provides a clear indication of the scope of the project. Compared to GTA VI with other AAA titles, abysmal differences are noted: most triple A games are developed with budgets ranging from 200 to 400 million euros. Here, however, the study has invested five times that figure, only for the workforce. This massive investment underlines Rockstar Games' commitment to creating an unprecedented videoludic experience, fuelling the huge expectations surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI and confirming its status as the most expensive title ever made in the digital entertainment industry. The project, involving figures specialised in motion capture, musical licenses and technological infrastructure (costs not included in the salaries), represents an unprecedented step ahead of any previously developed video game.
