Rebuilt in GTA 5: a fragment of the map of Leonida reveals secrets of GTA 6

A modder brought to light development materials dating back to 2014-2015, used to create a partial reconstruction of the territory of Leonida – the key city of GTA VI – within Grand Theft Auto V Legacy. The project, created by fans who exploited old files recovered from the computer attack at Rockstar Games in 2022, offers an unprecedented preview of how the setting could have been conceived in the initial phase of the development of GTA VI. The reconstructed areas show a rough and unfinished version of the map, without modifications and adjustments that characterized the final production of the game. This is not an accurate representation of the city as it will be in 2026, but rather a snapshot of a creative process started over ten years ago. The use of these materials raises questions about the geography of GTA VI and any changes regarding the first projects. The project represents an interesting exercise of historical reconstruction that allows to appreciate the evolution of the game and the decisions taken during the development. The conversion is designed for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V Legacy, requiring the installation of a separate patch. This new approach demonstrates, like other community modding projects (such as Sunshine Dream, Evil Soul or the modification of cut songs), the creativity of fans in reusing and reinterpreting the content of the game.
