Development GTA VI: Over 8 Years of Work and ambition "Americas"

The huge effort behind Grand Theft Auto VI is revealing an unprecedented commitment from Rockstar Games. As reported by an article by Bloomberg interviewed by journalist Jason Schreier, the development of the most anticipated sequel of the decade – coming out on November 19, 2026 – demanded more than eight years and the collaboration of more than 4,000 people, half of which assumed specifically for this project. The work on GTA VI began in 1997, when the company was still DMA Design, and was intensified since 2018, after the completion of Red Dead Redemption II. The game sees the protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple who tries to make their way into the criminal environment of Miami, Florida, an ambientation that was initially conceived as part of the wider "Project Americas", with the aim to include large portions of North and South America. The development timeline was influenced by the priority given to Red Dead Redemption II, forcing Rockstar North to temporarily suspend work on GTA VI. Journalist Jason Schreier described the rhythms of work as exhausting, especially during the final stage of the production of his predecessor. Despite the long timing and absence from the market, the expectation for Grand Theft Auto VI remains high, given its ambition and expectations.
