Rockstar: Reactive NPCs and Dynamic Interactions between Jason and Lucia at the Centre of GTA VI
Rockstar is putting emphasis on deep immersion, not only on the size of GTA VI. As Rob Nelson, Head of Development and Co-Studio Head of Rockstar North explains in a long interview with IGN, the new chapter aims to make players feel an integral part of a live world, even when they are not involved in the main plot. The focus is on developing interaction systems, with NPCs capable of reacting to player actions and dynamic kidnappings influenced by circumstances. And yes, there will be times when the player can slip into a dumpster with a stranger. One of the examples illustrated by Nelson is a hidden man inside a dumpster. Lucia could decide to offer him pills or ignore him, and meet him again getting a legal advice, or participate directly in the scene. The player can also enter the dumpster along with the character. This level of interaction also extends to shifts: Jason and Lucia will be able to propose activities during the exploration, making it less rigid the boundary between the choices of the player and the events that follow along the path. It will be possible to pass from one protagonist to another while on the way, letting the previously controlled character continue independently. You can also stay in the passenger seat while the partner drives and listen to the conversations during the ride. Ryde Me will also be available to move, a transport service that will allow you to quickly reach a destination without sacrificing the possibility of conversing with the driver. To ensure natural and varied dialogue, Rockstar has created a team of writers, directors and producers in Los Angeles, also responsible for observing the daily interactions of people. This will result especially when the player decides to listen too much to a conversation: stopping close to a group to listen to the conversation...
