GTA VI: Rockstar Betting on the 60 Future FPS – That’s what Rob Nelson says
GTA 6 will arrive at the launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at 30 frames per second, a decision dictated by the complexity of the title. But the situation could change in the future. The statements by Rob Nelson, Head of Development and co-studio head of Rockstar North confirm that Rockstar's technical team is evaluating the possibility to implement a 60 FPS mode for GTA VI, not only at launch, but also later. The confirmation comes from a recent visit to Rockstar North, where Nelson specified that the console versions of the game are currently turning to 30 FPS. This means that at the moment there will be no Performance 60 FPS mode with the GTA VI output. This is largely due to the technically ambitious nature of the game, characterized by an unprecedented level of detail and the simultaneous management of a huge number of elements in the game world. However, Rockstar did not close the door to an update that could bring the frame rate to 60 FPS. The reference to Kotaku, based on Nelson's statement, underlines that this assessment concerns both the launch and any subsequent developments. The strategy adopted with GTA 5 – originally launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at 30 FPS and then optimized it with 60 FPS modes on the next generation consoles – suggests that Rockstar could repeat the operation with GTA VI. Despite the most powerful hardware in the Series X|S consoles, the greater complexity of the GTA VI project is a significant technical challenge. The main problem could be in CPU efficiency, as suggested by some analysts. But at the moment, the road to the 60 FPS remains open, opening new perspectives for the gaming experience of Grand Theft Auto VI.
