Field research in Miami for GTA VI: Rockstar spends huge sums in strip clubs and nightclubs

The developers of GTA VI conducted extensive research in Miami, devoting years to the recreation of the game region with unprecedented accuracy. As stated by Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of the Rockstar narrative, the team attended bars, nightclubs and strip clubs, spending time on the beaches, exploring the Everglades and the Florida Keys archipelago, as well as traveling the night quarters along with former police officers. Rockstar has funded these research trips, including spending on drinks and entertainment in the premises, considered an integral part of the work on the game. The developers interacted with the local population, studying the culture, crime and the role of the police, crossing swamps and mangroves. According to Humphreys, the goal was to experience firsthand what was then translated into GTA VI. The materials collected were fundamental for the creation of the imaginary state of Leonida and its inhabitants, influencing dialogues, criminal plots and the general atmosphere. The approach also concerned the development of the NPCs. The inhabitants of Leonida will distinguish themselves by height, body and physical characteristics related to the specific regions and communities. Tattoos will be linked to these areas. Rockstar has dedicated a specific team to creating jokes of non-playing characters. The game will be released on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
