From the size of GTA 3 to GTA 6: the evolution of the Rockstar games in numbers

From GTA 3 to GTA 6, how much did Rockstar games grow? The comparison is impressive. According to data provided by PlayStation Game Size, the new chapter could take 210 GB of space on PS5, a figure that marks a dizzying evolution compared to predecessors. To understand the extent of change, Pirat Nation has done an analysis of Rockstar Games stock storage requirements since 2001. GTA 3, the title that revolutionized the series with its 3D world, occupied just 1.1 GB. GTA Vice City, with its homage to the Miami of the Eighties, reached about 1.5 GB. GTA San Andreas, in 2004, further expanded the experience, adding a much larger and richer game world of secondary activity, but its weight remained contained at about 4.2 GB. GTA 4, released in 2008, introduced an even more detailed Liberty City, advanced physics and new technologies, bringing the space occupied to exceed 10 GB for the first time. GTA 5, the most recent chapter of 2013, saw Rockstar Games aim at Los Santos as never before. At the launch, the game weighed just over 17 GB, but with the introduction of GTA Online and numerous expansions, the size on PS5 is now about 87 GB. If the estimates of 210 GB for GTA 6 had to be correct, the new game would take approximately 2.4 times the GTA 5 space on the PS5 and 190 times the original GTA 3. An unprecedented increase in size that testifies to the ambition of Rockstar Games in creating an even more immersive and complex open-world experience, scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
