Rockstar plunges into modern Florida: search on board with former cops and clubs

Rockstar Games revealed how much its developers spent on understanding the contemporary aspect of Florida while creating Grand Theft Auto VI. Instead of relying exclusively on previous GTA photographs, maps, videos or games, the development team traveled repeatedly through Miami and South Florida to collect first-hand reference material. According to senior narrative vice president Rupert Humphries, Rockstar tried to experiment as much as possible in Florida. This included driving through night areas with former police officers, visiting clubs and strip clubs, spending time on beaches, exploring the Everglades, traveling through the Florida Keys and watching other parts of the state. A particularly unusual aspect was Rockstar's decision to travel Florida at night with former cops. The goal was not simply to see how Florida looks, but to understand how different environments feel after the dark, how neighborhoods change at night and how the communities perceive the forces of the order they patrol. Humphries specifically mentioned visits to clubs and strip clubs as part of the research process. This naturally fits into the long-term interest of GTA for nightlife and adult entertainment. The previous Grand Theft Auto games have repeatedly used clubs, bars, casinos and other entertainment venues such as environmental details and game locations. It is important to note that this research does not automatically imply that every place visited by Rockstar appears directly in GTA 6. Rockstar's statement describes the breadth of the reference collection process, not a complete list of places or activities that will be playable. GTA 6 literally doesn't recreate the state of Florida. Instead, Rockstar transformed it into the imaginary state of Leonida, with Vice City as the most recognizable urban center. The story of Jason and Lucia takes place in this context, with their criminal journey through the state. This gives Rockstar a considerable freedom over the simple reconstruction of Miami. Modern Florida provides the basis, while characters, businesses, communities, geography, wildlife, criminal organizations and fictitious social situations can be exaggerated in satirical calling Grand Theft Auto. The resumption of Vice City, more than twenty years after the last great Rockstar appearance, is particularly significant.
