Kodaka (Danganronpa) Sending the New Project to Play GTA VI - "I would not have had time to work at the game while playing GTA 6"
The release of Grand Theft Auto VI, set at 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, is intended to represent a revolutionary event in the video game scene. The fervent expectation for the Rockstar Games title led several publishers to rework their launch plans, focusing their releases in September and October. However, the referral was not determined solely by commercial or competitive reasons. Kazutaka Kodaka, the author of the Danganronpa series, decided to postpone the release of his next project, Danganronpa 2x2, entirely personal motivation. "Of course we wanted more time for development, it's normal, right? But, apart from this, there is a certain AAA/AAAAAA next release that we wanted to somehow avoid," said Kodaka at Crunchyroll's microphones. “I wouldn’t have had time to work at the game while playing GTA 6, so it was inevitable to move the date out.” Kodaka's revelation underlines a often underestimated aspect in the gaming industry: developers are, first of all, players. Recent reorganisations of business calendars seem to have found the favor of several development teams who won not only more time to hone their titles, but also the opportunity to devote themselves to the launch of GTA VI. The chain effect triggered by the date of 19 November will affect the following months, with a concentration of significant launches also in February and March 2027, potentially affecting the sales of other important titles such as Stranger Than Heaven, Fable, Persona 4 Revival and God of War Laufey.
