Forecasts of Sale in Electric Rhythms: 30 Millions of Copies on Day One for GTA VI

Between 25 and 30 million copies planned on the first day of sale: this is the estimate indicated by two industry analysts for the debut of Grand Theft Auto VI. David Cole, founder of DFC Intelligence, plans a peak of 25 million units, mainly derived from bookings accumulated in view of the exit. Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, believes it can exceed 30 million. These are independent evaluations, not official data disclosed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. The forecasts were formulated as a result of the price announcement in the United States: $79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. The preorders began on June 25, but Take-Two has not yet published the total number of reservations. The launch is scheduled for 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Cole's estimate reflects a commercial explosion higher than that of GTA V, which sold about 11 million copies in the first 24 hours. Reaching 25 million would mean more than double that. The analyst, however, highlights a potential limitation given by the installed base of the current consoles, as well as the absence of a PC version at launch, which could reduce the user basin during the first day. Joost van Dreunen has developed a wider projection: 38 million copies and over $3 billion in the first twelve months. Although it is not directly comparable with the estimates of Cole and Toto, concentrated on the launch day, it offers an indication of commercial expectations for the game in its first year. A calculation based on the 25 million units speculated by Cole and on the base price of 79,99 dollars produces approximately 2 billion dollars of gross revenues. This data does not represent the net income of Rockstar or Take-Two. The reference to the estimated development budget in 2 billion dollars remains unofficial; therefore, the hypothesis that only pre-orders can fully cover production cannot be considered a consolidated figure. The comparison with the commercial longevity of the series is crucial: Grand Theft Auto exceeded a total of 470 million distributed units, while GTA V reached almost 230 million copies in thirteen years. Although Cole considers a stronger start to the new chapter plausible, analysts do not expect GTA VI to replicate the same commercial longevity as its predecessor.
