Take-Two Interactive, the owner of Rockstar Games, has recently informed investors during its last conference on profits that it plans to reach between 8 and 8.2 billion dollars this fiscal year. It is not the first time that Strauss Zelnick adopts this strategy, and the reason for this significant increase compared to last year is Grand Theft Auto VI, which will debut on November 19. Last year, in the financial course concluded in March 2026, Take-Two cashed around $6.72 billion in net bookings, a number representing all revenue generated by video games. An increase of approximately 1.4 billion dollars in one year, equal to one fifth of that figure, appears paradoxically appropriate for the next Grand Theft Auto, which will face similar expectations. Meanwhile, the rest of Take-Two's business, sports games, mobile titles and legacy catalog, should remain stable or even decrease slightly this year. In fact, it provides a slight contraction for its mobile division. Given the enormous financial pressure exerted on GTA 6, it is understandable because we claim that the company is betting on the entire year of play. The jump provided by Take-Two during 2026 to 2027 and what drives it. Surprisingly, this was not always the case. For years, Rockstar did not represent the biggest slice of this cake. Take-Two acquired the Zynga mobile giant in 2022 specifically to avoid excessive dependence on Rockstar's massive release opportunities. Now, in just one year and perhaps for some years in the future, it will have to do this. What if the game is postponed? Well, that would create considerable repercussions, as you can imagine. If Rockstar delayed GTA 6 compared to this fiscal year, the $8 billion forecast would evaporate practically at the moment. The company should probably reduce its perspective, the action could suffer a hard blow and the whole story of a record year would be reset next year. This is why each item of rolling deadlines affects the price of Take-Two actions and why random observers consider each conference on profits as an opportunity for bad news. When so much depends on a single date, that date becomes the most important number the company has. However, although Take-Two and Rockstar are confident in the current release date of GTA 6, they can actually postpone it. For example, if GTA 6 does not meet their current standards by November, a delay and further downturn in video game industry sales, especially Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5, will not change the fact that Take-Two is on a solid basis and can recover what is at risk, as long as a fourth delay occurs. Take-Two plans to generate over 1 billion dollars of operating cash flow this year and will be on the good road to reach a clear liquidity position (i.e. more money than debt) at the end of the year. Below the launch is a catalog that generates profits regardless of releases, led by Grand Theft Auto V, which continues to sell and...
