Take-Two and Rockstar: Focus on the Single Player of GTA VI, the Future of GTA Online in Attesa

The message is clear and disappointing: Take-Two and Rockstar are focusing their attention on the development of Grand Theft Auto 6 single-player. As reported by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier after the last earnings call, the publisher “is not talking at all” what will be the new GTA Online and does not intend to do so “in short time”. The game, already announced as a single-player experience in June, sees a clear focus on the release of the main title. The current GTA Online will continue to be supported: said Strauss Zelnick, pointing out that dedicated resources have not decreased and the game still generates significant revenue. Some analysts interpret this decision as a positive signal, preferring a detailed campaign to a rushed online with launch issues. Others, however, fear a delay in the arrival of the new multiplayer, potentially postponed to 2027 or beyond. In any case, Rockstar seems to adopt a strategy of “remit”: first the campaign, then you will see. The strategy seems understandable: GTA Online has generated profits for over ten years and does not take the urgency to replace it. Better to let single-player talk and take advantage of the created hype, although there is a risk that a part of the online community feels excluded at the moment of maximum expectation. The prospects for GTA Online remain uncertain, but at the moment the priority is clearly set on the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.
