Rockstar imposes restrictions on the modding of GTA 6: no crossover and ban on monetization

Rockstar Games has released new GTA 6 modding guidelines, anticipating a possible community activity on PC. The restrictions introduced aim to preserve the narrative and playful integrity of the game, drastically limiting the possibilities of creators. In particular, it is forbidden to modify the main story, missions, characters and other central elements of Rockstar Games' official continuity. Also, it will not be allowed to combine maps or resources from different titles of the company, such as a hypothetical cameo of Arthur Morgan of Red Dead Redemption 2 within GTA 6. Rockstar also imposed limits on the multiplayer modding, requiring the use of the official Creator Platform or other platforms authorized for online changes. It is forbidden to change the game to make it compatible with consoles or other unofficially supported hardware. The new rules also prohibit the inclusion of content protected by external copyrights, such as characters, music, images, video games, advertising, trademarks, logos and even places in the real world. This limitation could have a significant impact on some of the most creative mods developed for GTA 5. As for monetization, mods cannot be sold or generated profit unless approved through Rockstar's official creator platforms. Finally, problematic behaviors such as harassment, threats, bullying and online abuse are expressly forbidden. It remains to be seen the concrete impact of these restrictions on the PC scene when GTA 6 will be available on that platform and the community will begin to experiment with the game. It is said that a famous tourist location will be present in the title.
