Rockstar Blocks Mods for GTA VI: What Changes to Fans

Rockstar Games has issued new strict guidelines on mods a few weeks after the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, set on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. These restrictions aim to control the integrity of campaign and multiplayer, drastically limiting changes to plots, maps, characters and other key elements of the game. The official document establishes an explicit ban on expanding or modifying the main narrative of GTA VI, as well as adding new missions or altering existing ones. This also includes the manipulation of playable characters, in particular Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the two protagonists confirmed. Changes to maps, settings and assets will also be strictly prohibited, preventing the creation of custom world builds or the integration of content from other Rockstar titles, such as Red Dead Redemption. The rules also extend to the multiplayer, allowing changes only through the official Rockstar Creator Platform or with a direct license. The use of cheat menus and software interfering with online services is completely forbidden. In addition, mods cannot be adapted to work on platforms other than those officially supported (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) or may include copyrighted material such as artwork, music or images without Rockstar's authorization. Voice interpretations of characters and the use of images or voices of real people are also prohibited. Rockstar has announced that GTA 6 will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but has not yet provided details on the PC version. This update of the mod guidelines comes at a time of great expectation for the launch of the game, with Rockstar determined to maintain the integrity of the game experience for all its players.
