Rockstar points to the "lateral" satire for GTA VI: no direct references to reality

A little more than a month since its debut, Rockstar Games has clarified its narrative strategy for GTA 6: the political approach will be targeted and indirect, avoiding too specific references to facts or real people. Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative of the studio, Rob Nelson and Aaron Garbut, explained this in a long interview published by Love Magazine. The decision, fruit of years of development, aims to create a contemporary game that does not differ from the news, preserving its longevity. According to Humphries, the series has avoided since the beginning of building its satire on American national policy. The only significant exception was GTA 4, in which the Patriot Act and the birth of the Department of Homeland Security had a significant narrative weight, given the setting in New York after September 11. “We want games that look tied to the moment they go out, but that they don’t exactly reflect the world we live in,” said the manager. For this reason, the study avoids being too specific on a single figure, an event or a movement. The team conducted extensive research in Florida, the inspiring state of Leonida of the game. Humphries described the creation of a world populated by characters and cultural wars capable of making it credible, without resorting to recognizable caricatures. The policy will lead through secondary channels: electoral billboards, automatic campaign calls, radio spots and debate programs broadcast by virtual broadcasters – one of the historical instruments of the series to comment on current events. Basically, Rockstar prefers to amplify an aspect of a theme to the absurd, rather than faithfully replicate real events. This strategy does not imply a renunciation of uncompromising content, as demonstrated by GTA 5 dealing with issues such as torture and secret detention sites, but rather a filter applied to the construction of the original characters. The release is scheduled for 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while the PC version still awaits a launch date. Analyst estimates provide up to $5.2 billion in cash within the launch week of GTA 5, which has already exceeded 200 million distributed copies.
