Rockstar: Each Room of GTA VI Created in Hand, with Unique NPCs

Rockstar revealed that every single room and every NPC in Grand Theft Auto VI was made manually, rejecting procedural and visual simplifications. According to Aaron Garbutt, co-director of Rockstar North and artistic director of the GTA series, the development teams dedicated meticulous attention to every detail of the game. The creators have treated every environment, defining not only the decor, but also the location of the characters within the rooms, their habits and even the objects they own. Some of these detailed scenes were created by real photography, with real people immortalized in random poses to add further depth to the game world. Details such as positioning cups or signs of destruction on tables have also been considered, or photographs affixed to the walls depicting people in the environment. This approach aims to make every place feel part of the history of people who live in it, not simply a collection of furniture and standard decorations. For non-playable characters (NPC), Rockstar has set up a dedicated team of screenplayers, directors and producers. This team has abandoned the automated system for character generation, preferring a real artistic realization of the appearance of Los Angeles residents. This has been done so as to correct the behavior problems present in GTA V, where the characters react in a simplistic way to events such as collisions or confrontations with AI. GTA 6 will contain more than 600,000 animations, more than ten times than GTA V (55.000) and almost double Red Dead Redemption 2 (300.000). This vast library of animations will be fundamental to make the environment more responsive and dynamic, as demonstrated by the first demos shown.
