A former designer from Rockstar Games, Jérémy Hartvick, expressed strong doubts about the possibility that GTA VI will be released on Nintendo Switch 2. Hartvick, who worked at the game from 2017 to 2020, believes that a porting of the Nintendo console would make no sense, considering the audience of reference of the new chapter of the saga. In an interview with Kiwi Talkz (private time), Hartvick explained his reasons: “I don’t think that makes sense, because I’m not sure that the GTA VI audience is the same audience as Switch.” The former developer points out that those who want to play Grand Theft Auto VI would probably be willing to buy a game-compatible platform, such as PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Hartvick identifies further issues: the need for a strong technical optimization to adapt GTA VI to the Switch 2 hardware and the fact that this porting would represent a significant compromise compared to the audience who already expects a complete gaming experience. “It makes sense for you to do anything to offer you probably a lower experience, because it wouldn’t work exactly the same way, when you know that anyone would buy a PS5 to have your game? No! In spite of this, Hartvick does not consider the idea completely impossible, although he considers Rockstar's choice unlikely. Currently, GTA VI is only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, without any confirmation for PC or Nintendo Switch 2.
