A former Rockstar developer has doubts about the GTA VI release for Switch 2, believing that the PS5 is more suitable for the game. Although the enthusiasm of PC users remains high, voices on a title porting for the portable Nintendo console raise technical concerns. In a recent interview with Kiwi Talkz, Jérémy Hartvick, former Rockstar North employee between 2017 and 2020 (where he worked on the last Grand Theft Auto project), expresses his distrust of the feasibility of the game on Switch 2. Hartvick points out that the performance required by such a detailed open world, such as that of the Leonida map in the prototypes, would also test the current consoles. The former developer warns that performance optimization may not guarantee an “experience below expectations” on a platform with limited resources. Hartvick also questioned the potential commercial success of porting, wondering if “the GTA 6 audience is really the same audience as the Switch.” The interview also highlights the fact that many people already own a PS5 or are about to buy one in view of the scheduled release in November. Regarding the game's specifications, Rob Nelson of Rockstar North revealed that development versions are currently targeting 30 fps, a fact that raises doubts about the ability of the PS5 Pro, or even Switch 2, to reach 40 or 60 frames per second. This, combined with the size of NPC and the level of detail shown in the trailer released on Netflix, makes it fear that a native porting would be impractical. Despite the uncertainty regarding this porting, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, had previously expressed “great optimism for the platform”.
