Meteorological system of GTA 6: tropical storms are reshaping survival to Vice City

Rockstar Games has released new information on the GTA VI weather system, anticipating how climate change will affect the world of Leonida. The dynamics of the weather and its transitions between different locations have already sparked wide debates among fans. In a new interview with Game Informer, the developer confirmed that GTA VI will present extreme weather conditions, including localized tropical storms and large-scale violent hurricanes, spread through the map. Fans were surprised by the addition of hurricanes in the coming game. @nothaileybrooks commented: "Omg, it will be so realistic," expressing the need for a "new survival kit for hurricanes" when he will play. Another player, @adv vkr, answered: “Uragani a Vice City? Driving has become much more dangerous.” Similarly, the @realdreafox fan praised creators for their work in designing real life conditions and described new mechanics as a "game change". The dynamic weather system and storms add atmospheric depth to an open-world sandbox, with people who seem to not appreciate how complex the implementation of realistic hurricane physics is in such a vast map. The GTA 6 weather system is designed to make the world feel an integral part of the game rather than a simple background or an on/off switch. The rain can be localized, so an area of Leonida will be affected by the rain while the other remains sunny. Players will see the rainy PNGs and notice small puddles near the street lamps and corners. The wind system also received a lot of attention. The gusts can move the hair and debris on the roofs, ripple the water and bend the grass into the marshes of Leonida. "We have redesigned our weather system to make it much more localized and persistent and we really wanted the world to feel solidly dynamic and reach a scale we never felt before," said Tom Shepherd, co-director of Rockstar San Diego's studio. Grand Theft Auto VI will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
