Rockstar Strings the Death on the Modders of GTA 6: Rigorous Guidelines for the Future of Community Content

Rockstar Games has published an update of its modding guidelines, imposing strict limits that will significantly affect community activity towards GTA 6. The decision, announced by Vittorio Rienzo on September 22, 2026, comes in view of the release of the title and aims to control with greater precision the creation and distribution of modified content, defining a much more restrictive picture than the past. The new rules explicitly prohibit any changes to the official plot of the game, missions, main characters – Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos included – and other narrative elements created by Rockstar. The use of assets or elements from other Rockstar titles has also been prohibited, as well as the combination of maps and settings from different games. The restrictions extend to the multiplayer modding, which will necessarily have to go through the official Rockstar Creator Platform, obtaining specific permissions from the company for any changes. Any form of hacking or software that interferes with online multiplayer, online gaming services or the platform itself has been expressly prohibited. Rockstar also imposed an absolute ban on the use of intellectual property of third parties, including graphic elements, musicals, characters (including those created by Dre'Quan Priest and Real Dimez), works of art, real places and representations of real people without the company's written consent. Finally, the use of cheat menus or software that alter the gameplay has been categorically banned, as well as any form of monetization of the edited content outside the authorized Creator Platform. The decision underlines Rockstar's will to maintain full control over its intellectual property and the GTA 6 gaming experience.
