On August 6, Rockstar Games announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a special that will debut exclusively on Netflix on August 27 at 21:00 Italian time and will remain on the platform for six hours before being released on the official Rockstar channels. Details on the content of the special are still limited, but Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, explained the reason for choosing Netflix instead of a simple YouTube video. During an interview with Bloomberg, journalist Jason Schreier asked Zelnick if the presentation would be structured as a Netflix show. The CEO's response was clear: “Yes.” Zelnick added that, once seen the special, spectators will better understand the reason for the collaboration, defining it as an "unmissable event". At the moment, Rockstar has not specified how long the presentation will last or what form it will take exactly. It could be an extension of gameplay, a deepening of development, a documentary or a combination of these elements. The strategy seems to aim to reach a wider audience than fans who have already decided to buy the game. According to Schreier, Rockstar and Take-Two also focus on non-player Netflix users and interested in the title but without the intention of buying it at launch. Netflix's communication also follows this line, defining the collaboration "the next generation of storytelling and content on Netflix". Brandon Riegg, vice president of Netflix’s non-fiction series, explained that the goal is to reach the wider audience possible with ambitious productions. The choice of Netflix is of particular importance considering that GTA 6 is already creating a remarkable interest: the preorders have exceeded the internal forecasts of Take-Two, and Zelnick describes them as “exceptional”. The operation aims to transform the launch into an event also aimed at the public outside the video industry, exploiting the scope of millions of spectators on Netflix.
