Ex Rockstar Manufacturer On GTA VI Difficulty at 60 FPS on Console

By GTA6 Hub editorial team

According to John Ricchio, former Rockstar Games technical director who worked at GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption, it could be difficult for GTA VI to reach the 60 frames per second stablely on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles at the time of launch. Ricchio, during a podcast with Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly, highlighted the challenges related to the management of the next generation hardware, considering the ambition and the vastness of the open world planned for GTA VI. Ricchio's statements suggest that Rockstar could favour graphical fidelity and object density compared to a constant frame rate, given the historic reluctance of the study to compromise visual quality in its top titles. Numerous indiscretions from dealer boards indicate that GTA 6 will be available in both 30 FPS and 60 FPS modes on the two consoles, although Rockstar has not yet confirmed this information. Ricchio's observations are in line with what reported by Digital Foundry in previous weeks, which identified the CPU as the main bottleneck for GTA 6, given the enormous processing power required by traffic and physics simulation, especially at the high speeds reached by car, boat or plane players. Digital Foundry believes that a 40 FPS mode is more realistic on the PS5 Pro, enhanced console with improved GPU. In further development, updated Xbox Store tabs suggested the possibility to separately download GTA 6's history and online modes, offering players the flexibility to save storage space if they want to leave the campaign in favor of multiplayer mode. Rockstar has not released comments on this option.
