GTA 6: Rockstar reveals amazing details on the map and the 600,000 animations

A number of directors: 600,000 different animations to give life to an entire imaginary state, from street passers to fish swimming under water, to the last car that flows on the highways of Leonida. This is the data revealed by Rockstar Games after the premiere presentation of GTA 6 on Netflix, and that emphasizes the ambition of the new chapter of the saga: a work of proportions never seen before in the video industry. The issue, which emerged from a study published by the New York Times, shows an unprecedented level of detail. The developers have confirmed that every gesture, movement and interaction in the game map is the result of an extraordinary animation work, intended to redefine the standards of the medium. By comparison, GTA 5 (2013) counted only 55.000 unique animations, while Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) presented 300,000 – a figure that at the time seemed already at the limit of the conceivable. GTA 6 surpasses the animations in GTA 5 ten times and twice as much as Red Dead Redemption 2, highlighting Rockstar’s commitment to every detail to obsession. As stated Aaron Garbut, artistic director of Rockstar North and co-responsible of the studio, “Every room of the game was thought by someone”. This translates into a manic attention to environmental narrative: furniture, colors, people present, even their tattoos, everything contributes to creating a palpable and immersive reality. Garbut describes the creative process as "almost craft", despite the industrial scale of the project. Rockstar also confirmed a complete restyling of the research system, present since the first chapters of the saga, demonstrating the intention to reinterpret classical mechanics for this new title. The presentation opened new perspectives on GTA 6, promising a video-ludic experience that will redefine the boundaries of the open-world genre.
