The arrival of GTA VI will not involve the closure of GTA Online. Take-Two reiterated a firm position: as long as the community continues to play, invest in the online world of GTA V and remain involved, the title support will continue even after the launch of the new chapter. This is an important confirmation, especially considering how much GTA has become over the years much more than a simple multiplayer mode: today it is a real ecosystem, constantly updated and able to generate very high numbers for Rockstar Games. GTA Online will continue to live even after the release of GTA VI. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, explained that the company intends to support its titles when an active and interested community exists. And it is difficult to find a more obvious example of GTA Online. Despite being born together with GTA V, the online compartment still continues to receive updates, new activities, events and content, maintaining an extremely wide base of players. For this reason, Take-Two does not see the GTA VI exit as a switch intended to immediately shut down what exists today. No automatic closing is expected in November. GTA VI remains scheduled for 19 November 2026 on PS5 and XBOX Series X|S, but this does not mean that from that day GTA Online will stop working or receiving support. The strategy will be linked mainly to the response of players. If millions of users will continue to popular Los Santos, to buy content and participate in the activities proposed by Rockstar, there would be no commercial reason to suddenly stop support. Of course this does not mean that GTA Online will continue forever in the same way or with the same frequency of updates. With time, part of the resources could inevitably be moved to the future of the series. What about the GTA VI multiplayer? And this is where the most interesting question arises. Rockstar Games has not yet explained in detail how the online component of GTA VI will work, nor when it is introduced. We do not know if it will be available at the same time as the campaign, if it arrives later or what relationship it will have with the current GTA Online. We could find ourselves in front of two ecosystems capable of living together for a certain period, especially if Rockstar decided to gradually accompany the community towards the new generation. For now, however, any hypothesis on a possible “GTA VI Online” remains only such. GTA Online is still too important to be abandoned. The reason for Take-Two's caution is easily understandable: GTA continues to represent one of the most important sources of recurring involvement and expenditure of the group. GTA+ also plays a major role in the franchise's business strategy. In addition, Rockstar continued to publish new content in 2026, despite GTA VI being increasingly close.
