The release of Grand Theft Auto VI will not lead to the closure of GTA Online. Take-Two Interactive reiterated its commitment to keep the popular online compartment active, as long as the community will continue to play, invest in the virtual world of Los Santos and remain involved. This confirmation is crucial, considering the evolution of GTA, transformed over the years into a real ecosystem constantly updated and capable of generating huge revenues for Rockstar Games. As already demonstrated with GTA Online, born parallel to GTA V, the online compartment continues to be enriched with new activities, events and narrative elements, maintaining an extremely wide base of players. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, stressed the importance of continuous support for its titles when the community is active and interested. GTA VI, scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, is therefore not a switch intended to turn off GTA Online immediately. Rockstar's strategy will be oriented to the response of players: if millions of users will continue to popular Los Santos, to buy content and participate in the proposed activities, support for the multiplayer will continue smoothly. However, it is important to note that this does not mean an absence of changes over time. Some of the resources could inevitably be destined for the development of the future of the series. The most pressing question concerns the online component of GTA VI: Rockstar Games has not yet provided details on its operation or on its introduction date, nor on which will be the relationship between this new system and the current GTA Online. A separate ecosystem could then be created, especially if Rockstar should gradually accompany the community to the next generation. Take-Two prudence is understandable: GTA continues to represent one of the main sources of recurring involvement and expenditure of the group, alongside the activity of GTA+. Rockstar has demonstrated its ability to continue publishing new content in 2026, despite the upcoming progress of GTA VI. At the moment, any speculation about a possible “GTA VI Online” remains only such. GTA Online is too important to be abandoned quickly.
