Rockstar reveals: the map of GTA VI is bigger than that of GTA V, but history defines exploration

Rockstar Games unveiled that Grand Theft Auto VI players will not attend the complete exploration of the map simply by completing the plot. The study estimates that the game world, called Leonida (an imaginary version of Florida), is about twice the size of Los Santos and Blaine County in GTA V. Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of the Rockstar narrative division, told Game Informer that the intent is to offer players the opportunity to explore and get an idea of the state's atmosphere, leaving the rest to be discovered independently. Aaron Garbut of Rockstar North described Leonida as the largest world ever created by the study, "of a great deal". The region includes six distinct areas: Vice City, inspired by Miami; Grassrivers, based on Everglades; Leonida Keys; Port Gellhorn; Ambrosia; and Mount Kalaga National Park. The map of GTA VI will host over 170 animal species, including alligators, lamantines, flamingos, sharks, whales and macaques. Rockstar has not yet revealed what creatures belong to the "light" category. Weather conditions will be dynamic and localized: wind, rippled water and grass bent by tropical storms and hurricanes (the frequency of these events and their impact on missions are still unknown). The relationship between the two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, may evolve in a romantic or platonic way, depending on the player's choices. The RydeMe ride-hailing service will allow players to change radio and social media station during travel. Grand Theft Auto VI will be available on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
