Rockstar and the $400 Collector’s Edition: a marketing exercise for fans

Rockstar made clear: GTA VI will not arrive on physical support for consoles. However, the company is aware of the desire of fans to "touch" the material of the game, coming to spend hundreds of dollars for useless and collectible plastic objects. Recently, Rockstar has announced a collection set focused on Grand Theft Auto VI, the upcoming blockbuster that has made Netflix collapse and that it will almost certainly generate billions of profits in the coming years. The "Goodtime State – Vice City Collection" is a premium packaging, albeit completely insignificant, containing potentially questionable elements inspired by the most popular TV series of Leonida, Macca the Gator. The collector's box, already available in pre-order at a price of $400, has sparked the enthusiasm among collectors and GTA enthusiasts. Rockstar foresees that the offer will remain open until the stocks last, making the packaging an object for the “scalpers”. The Florida-inspired "Leonida" is the state where the criminal adventure of GTA VI and Macca is the cute mascot that resides there. The GTA VI Vice City collection includes a 6-inch figure of the anthropomorphic gator, opaque black sunglasses, an A-Frame theme cap Leonida, a pin set, a bag, a poster and all. The package also includes three objects that suggest a rather unusual use: a bathroom mirror with gator Macca the Gator, a teaspoon from Vice City Swizzle and a keychain shaped as a razor Vice City. These "games" would be perfect to prepare a particular substance that fans of GTA and crime movies should know well, although we doubt that Tony Montana would ever use a pink gator as a keychain to prepare his daily dose. Despite the high price, Rockstar confirms that the collector's box GTA VI will not include the game itself. The package is clearly designed for long-time fans of the Grand Theft Auto series, or for newcomers interested in "approach" a tangible piece of GTA VI memorabilia, at a time when large companies strive to transform digital games into limited licenses that can revoke when they want. Until now and before the business operation on GTA VI, Rockstar had always released GTA mainline games in full physical format on each available platform. Now, the subsidiary Take-Two invites fans to stay tuned while other GTA-themed gadgets and clothing become available through the company's official store.
