Take-Two provides revenue of $1 billion for GTA VI only from preorders
GTA 6, which should arrive this autumn on PS5 and Xbox, is the biggest wait of the year, not only for players. Take-Two Interactive's financial projections are so ambitious to estimate a total revenue of $3.2 billion in the first year, with a billion dollars deriving exclusively from the preorders – a figure that greatly impacts the strategies of producing houses. Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, confirmed the expected schedule for the launch of the title, while stressing the risks of possible delays. Also the former developer of Rockstar Games, Obbe Vermeij, warned that the situation will be clarified only in May 2025. Despite these uncertainties, success is already in sight: GTA 6 is considered one of the most capable titles to push the sales of the last-gen consoles, as evidenced by an IGN survey showing 25.6% of users interested in purchasing the PS5 Pro only to be able to play GTA 6 with maximum details. In the context of the market, similar statements were also issued by the managing director of EA Andrew Wilson, willing to delay the new Battlefield according to the launch of the competitors, in particular GTA 6 and Call of Duty. Take-Two does not stop at GTA 6: Civilization VII will reach its doors on February 11, followed by WWE 2K25 in March and Mafia: The Old Country this summer. The company also confirmed support for the Nintendo Switch 2 console, raising questions about the role of new hardware in the launch of GTA 6 on Reddit. The current numbers show an even richer panorama: GTA 5 exceeded 210 million copies sold and Red Dead Redemption 2 reached 70 million.
