Take-Two: No Licensing After the Excise of GTA VI – The Promise of the CEO

Following the recent release of the extended trailer of Grand Theft Auto VI on Netflix, accompanied by a live streaming event, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick wanted to clarify a key issue about the future of Rockstar Games. Contrary to what happened in the past in other video projects, Take-Two does not provide for dismissals after the release of the title. Zelnick stressed that the need for post-launch support and prolonged development of GTA 6 Online – with the alleged creation of new corrective content and patches – require a continuous workforce, making it impossible to reduce personnel. The company is currently considered growing and explores even new recruitments. This statement is part of the general context of the video industry, where software houses often employ many developers during the development phase, and then proceed with dismissals at the end of the project. In the specific case of GTA VI, several factors – including long post-launch support and the development of GTA 6 Online – contribute to mitigating this risk. The possibility of a physical release of the disk game after the digital output is also assumed.
