Transformation of Jason and Lucia: the graphic progress of the first trailer of GTA VI

The video industry is often marked by a constant resize of the projects, as Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs or BioShock Infinite demonstrate. Rockstar Games seems to have avoided this fate with GTA 6, scheduled for November 19, presenting the protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos in a remarkable graphic evolution compared to the first trailer released in 2023. Analyzing the initial promotional material, it is known as the skin of Lucia appeared little textured, almost flat, with static hair and a generic appearance. Even Jason, with his shaved head and uncultivated beard, was an anonymous character. After about eighteen months of silence, Rockstar returned fans' attention with a second trailer that revealed an amazing qualitative leap. The artistic setting has remained substantially unchanged, but the level of detail in the models of the characters has undergone considerable improvement. Lucia now wears soft hair and a golden dress, while Jason's brown hair comes out of her hat with naturalness. The skin of the two protagonists reflects the wet heat of Vice City, with visible veins on Jason's arms and beard with unwanted irregularities. These small imperfections give the characters a credible aspect, favoring the realism of the game that aims at photorealism. This progress is not limited to aesthetics, but also includes an increase in customization options. The gap compared to the second trailer is smaller in the extended video released more recently, but remains significant when compared to the material of 2023: both Jason and Lucia appear now finished in the smallest details, probably in their final version. Rob Nelson, co-responsible of the Rockstar North studio, explained this path of continuous improvement aimed at ensuring an optimal visual experience for players.
