CSO Xbox Matt Ball confirms excellent sales preorders GTA VI – Record for the console

In the past hours, Xbox's Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball responded to a report by The Verge highlighting the unbalanced sales of Grand Theft Auto VI's preorders for PlayStation 5, raising concerns on the platform. The story also saw Tom Warren's intervention of The Verge and Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who questioned the data provided by Ball. Ball assured that Xbox is “very satisfied” of GTA VI’s sales until then, stating that the game is beating record for the brand, with further achievements expected in autumn. Its internal analysis shows a share of preorders in line with the market share of the Xbox console. Henderson expressed concern about the 1:3 relationship between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S purchasers for the game, asking Ball if this was indicating a change in the landscape. The journalist points out that the pre-order share would be related to the market share of the consoles. Warren reiterated the importance of demand for console market shares, raising the figure of about 100 million units sold for PlayStation 5 compared to the 30 million Xbox Series X and S. The debate, therefore, focuses on the interpretation of GTA VI’s sales of preorders and their relevance in the context of the current console market.
