Digital Foundry reveals the technical challenges of GTA VI on Switch 2 and Steam Deck

By GTA6 Hub editorial team

After almost two decades, GTA 6 surprises everyone by solving an old technical problem – The challenge for Rockstar Games to bring the kolossal of Vice City on hybrid platforms such as Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam Deck became the subject of intense speculation. The well-known Digital Foundry collective analyzes the implications of Trailer 2, highlighting the difficulty of replicating the breathtaking graphics previewed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on less powerful hardware. According to journalist Alex Battle of Digital Foundry, “Everyone will hate me for what I’m about to say, but in all probability the Switch 2 hardware would never be able to hold a possible GTA 6 porting.” The DF team underlines that the performances shown in Trailer 2, considered among the best real-time renderings ever seen, would be impossible to guarantee on consoles or PC handhelds. Despite Rockstar's representative claim that the video included gameplay scenes, Digital Foundry believes that the Trailer 2 offers a precious window on the interactive world of Vice City and the huge state of Leonida of GTA 6.
