Loss of GTA VI Cost Rockstar and Take-Two Dollar Billions

The leakage of Grand Theft Auto VI continues to generate significant economic repercussions for Rockstar Games and its publisher, Take-Two Interactive. According to recent estimates, the damage caused by the uncontrolled spread of protected material, largely attributed to the Cyberleek leaker, amounts to approximately $3 billion. More precisely, the value of Take-Two shares decreased from $248.13 (the value of 18 August 2026) to $223.84 (on 20 August 2026), for a decrease of $2.83 billion. This figure, already considerable, far exceeds the impacts observed in 2022, when estimated losses were around $510 million. Damage is greatly amplified by the nature of the leaked material, which goes far beyond simple screenshots or videos. The current situation is a much more serious crisis, given the potential influence on the production and launch of the game, as well as on fan expectations. At the moment, Rockstar and Take-Two are conducting investigations to identify the author of leaks, although at the moment no official statements have been issued regarding the actual nature of the operation or its origin. The question raises concerns about the security of game data and the protection measures adopted by the company. It is not excluded that, once the person is identified, strict legal actions are taken. It should be noted that some individuals are taking advantage of the growing attention towards the leaks to spread malware and scams online, highlighting the need for maximum caution from players and users on social media.
