Grand Theft Auto VI: Rockstar points on a Live World and Vice City at the Center

By GTA6 Hub editorial team

Rockstar is developing Grand Theft Auto VI as an evolution of the open world of Red Dead Redemption 2, characterized by increased popularity, richness of systems and a focus on exploration rewards. According to Rob Nelson, co-director of Rockstar North's studio, the game will be set at Leonida, a state inspired by Florida with Vice City in its center, where many situations develop spontaneously without indications on the map. The release is scheduled for 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's goal is to create the world's largest open, deepest and densest ever realized, extending the idea introduced in Red Dead Redemption 2 where the world continues to live even outside the main missions. The player can discover events by observing the environment, following unusual situations or simply deviating from the predetermined path. Nelson describes a very wide map, promising rewards for those who explore it, but emphasizes the importance of the density of the world of Leonida rather than extending dimensions. Vice City will be the urban hub of this Florida-inspired setting, with coastal areas, seas, bridges, roads and diversified settlements, ideal for alternating urban chaos with long journeys and unexpected encounters. The NPCs will be characterized by a greater physical variety – height and varied body – with adapted and responsive animations to player behavior. For example, passers-by when the player holds a firearm. The equipment system includes two hidden guns and two long weapons, related to the management of the personal vehicle. The choice of equipment will also affect the reactions of the surrounding NPCs.
