GTA VI: Nelson by Rockstar Svela the League with Red Dead Redemption 2 – The Open World at the Center of Strategy

The next chapter of the Grand Theft Auto saga, currently set for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, is taking a surprising direction. Rob Nelson, co-responsible to Rockstar North, revealed how the open world of GTA VI, called Leonida, strives to rival the narrative depth and immersive experience of Red Dead Redemption 2. Nelson explained that the world of Leonida will be a central element of the game, comparable to the Frontier of RDR2, but even expanded. The goal is to create an experience in which players can not only complete the main missions and immerse themselves in the history of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, but also dedicate themselves to open world activities consistent with their narrative and personality. As with Michael, Trevor and Franklin in GTA 5, players will be free to explore the vast world of Leonida, participating in events and activities that fit perfectly with the main plot. But Nelson clarified that open world will be richer and more dynamic than GTA 5, offering players greater opportunities to interact with the environment and surrounding characters, especially thanks to the central role of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. The vision is that of an open world experience in which the player's choices will significantly affect the story and relationships between the protagonists, in line with the narrative approach of Red Dead Redemption 2. This means that incursions, thefts and secondary activities will not be simple "distrations", but an integral part of the gaming experience and the construction of the relationship between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Rockstar Games will present GTA VI with an Action genre, developed by Rockstar Games and published by Take-Two Interactive, scheduled for release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
