GTA VI: Possible Awarded to the Game of the Year? – Analysis and Skepticism

The wait for the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, set for November 19, 2026, is palpable, and with it raises questions about its potential success in prestigious awards such as The Game Awards. An article about games.gg reported an ongoing debate on the opportunity of the game of contendership. Alanah Pearce, known as gaming journalist and streamer, recently highlighted the critical time window: on November 19 is the launch day and the terms for enrollment to prizes tend to be fixed shortly before. This creates a real problem, although not officially confirmed. The point of discussion is the fairness of the evaluation process. Some argue that, given the fact that TGA's previous Game of the Year took place on 21 November (two days after launch), GTA 6 could still be considered, although marginally. However, reality is different: suitability and real chances of victory are two distinct concepts. If GTA 6 was released only 48 hours before expiry, the jury would not have sufficient time to evaluate the game significantly. Rockstar Games is known for its vast and complex open worlds, and GTA 6 is no exception. It is unrealistic to expect a jury to make a weighted opinion in just two days. Major questions arise in this regard: would the jury members vote for a game that they did not even have the opportunity to complete? Will they be based exclusively on the first impressions? These are the questions that the prize community is now asking. What can Rockstar and Keighley do? There are two realistic roads: The first is to ask Geoff Keighley to extend the voting period. This depends on his will, since the presence of a huge audience during the event could be a practical incentive. Keighley has shown flexibility in the past when the show benefits. The second option is loaded with Rockstar. If the study provided early access to the jury members, a sort of "early access," the calculation would change radically. Providing preliminary reviews to a small group of people is a standard practice, but making it available exclusively for prize voters would be a well-thought strategic move. There is still no confirmation that Rockstar intends to do this, but it represents the most direct solution. Important Detections: On 30 September 2026, neither Rockstar nor The Game Awards issued official statements on the time horizon of suitability or on the provision of early access to the jury. Although GTA 6 fails to qualify for the prize cycle of 2026, the story does not end here. It is assumed that the update of GTA Online 2 will be launched in 2027, providing another great impulse of attention and involvement of players in the narrative. An even powerful signal would come from Intergalactic: The Here Prophet of Naughty Dog for the GOTY Award of 2027.
