The R18+ rating awarded to Grand Theft Auto VI by the Australian Classification Board (ACB) officially confirmed the presence of explicit sex scenes in the game. The decision, communicated on 27 August 2024, is based on a presentation of the materials provided for the classification, which includes detailed descriptions of high impact violence, use of drugs and sexual content. As warnings for users, the ACB has specified “high impact violence, sex scenes and drug use”. The Restricted 18 classification, also assigned to the New Zealand PlayStation Store, underlines the presence of graphic violence, nudity, vulgar language and explicit sexual content. The European PlayStation Store also adopted a slightly different formulation, indicating drugs, sexual content, extreme violence, nudity and in-game purchases. The American ESRB has assigned to GTA 6 the classification Mature 17+ for blood, intense violence, adult humor, nudity, vulgar language, explicit sexual content, as well as use of drugs and alcohol. It is important to note that the mention of “sex scenes” does not necessarily imply a realistic or detailed representation. As already present in GTA V, even in GTA VI characters could be clothes and sexual scenes transmitted through animations and audio. However, change in nature or degree of explicitness of such scenes seems confirmed by international rankings. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to be released on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. At the moment no plans were announced for a PC version, but Rockstar Games previously released titles on both platforms.
