Zelnick opens to physical editions of GTA VI: “Digital is dominant, but we do not exclude”

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick explained at the beginning of August 2026 that the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI on console could potentially include disc editions in the future. Despite Rockstar Games’ title to debut exclusively on online platforms, the entrepreneur dismissed any fear related to data theft advertising. The position of the manager reflects the current transformation of the electronic entertainment industry, oriented towards digital and its rapid evolution. During a recent meeting with investors, Zelnick kept the hopes of collectors alive. He explained that it is logical to focus on the virtual environment in the first weeks of sale, since the disks have lost their weight in the routine of modern buyers. To illustrate this change, the manager revealed that over 90% of the distributor's revenue comes from online transactions, an impressive figure considering that the previous franchise, GTA V, exceeded the threshold of 200 million copies sold globally. Zelnick stressed that the current infrastructure requires a constant connection to the consoles to ensure the proper functioning of the experience. With a user base always online, developers aim to optimize file delivery directly on devices. To the question about the real possibility of seeing the game on the physical shelves in the following years, the manager has adopted a cautious tone, stating that the company does not exclude any commercial road and that, despite the current attention to the digital, the plans can evolve according to the demand of the public. The concern for data theft did not affect the launch strategy.
