GTA 6 on Switch 2? An Ex-Rockstar Bets on Smartphones

The wait for GTA VI enters the final phase, with November 19 increasingly close. In this context, a former Rockstar developer has raised doubts about the possibility of a porting on the Nintendo Switch 2 console, suggesting instead an unexpected solution: smartphones. As already known, the exclusive of the new chapter is reserved for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release on PC scheduled later without precise dates. Rockstar's strategy, well rooted in the past, sees consoles as the primary playing ground. The Switch Node 2: Power and Opportunity The question of porting on the Nintendo console is complex. Despite technological progress, technical feasibility remains a central question. The transition on a hardware other than the one for which the game was conceived requires a deep adaptation, considering the limits of the target platform. According to Jérémy Hartvick, former Rockstar Games, the main obstacle does not reside in the power of the Switch 2, but in the type of audience to which the game turns. Because Smartphones are the most Logic bet Hartvick argues that converting GTA 6 to Switch 2 would be an exercise of opportunity, leaving the performance on the second floor. The real key to success would be the target of users to which the game is aimed: an approach that favours the potential smartphone market rather than the comparison between teraflop and resolutions. The statement of the former developer, however controversial, fits into a strategic vision of sales, focused on the identification of the most likely audience to purchase the mobile version of the game.
