GTA VI: A Potential Resolution to a Technical Problem of 18 Years of Rockstar
Grand Theft Auto VI may have finally solved one of the most persistent technical problems in the history of Rockstar games. The analysis of the new trailer made by Digital Foundry revealed a crucial aspect: the annoying motion of camera shots and some animations, a defect remarkably present in RAGE-based titles, seems finally absent. This discovery is good news for fans waiting for the new chapter of the saga, although it is premature to talk about a definitive solution until the complete release of the game. The issue concerns a particular irregularity in the fluidity of the movements that plagued some Rockstar games for years, such as Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. The problem was not exclusively related to the frequency of frames (frames per second), but rather to an anomaly in the animation pacing – that is, in the regularity with which animations were updated. This caused small shots in the camera and in some animations of the characters, making the experience less fluid, especially when the camera moved slowly. According to Digital Foundry, the new trailer of GTA 6 shows a significant improvement compared to this problem, suggesting a resolution of the glitch that afflicted the previous titles of the series. The Rockstar Games development team may have implemented modifications to the RAGE engine or optimized animation processes to eliminate this specific anomaly and improve the overall fluidity of the game. It remains to be seen if this improvement will be maintained in the final version, but the preliminary analysis offers a radius of hope for players who eagerly await the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.
