GTA VI: The PEGI Unveils a Violent and Crude Gameplay - Using Drugs and Scenes

Grand Theft Auto 6 received the PEGI 18 rating, the highest score provided by the European video game rating system. The tab was temporarily published on the agency’s website and then removed, but several users saved and spread it online. The document confirms what was expected from a series chapter, lists unpublished mechanics in a Grand Theft Auto, a few weeks after the launch scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series| XS. The most controversial feature is the use of narcotics by the protagonists. According to the classification, drug consumption is "frequent and in the foreground", allowing players to consume them together with other characters and to draw on illegal substances directly from the inventory. The most explicit passage concerns cocaine, which players can carry with them and sniff from their own hand "at any time". This represents a significant change over previous chapters. In past titles, drug traffic was often central in the plot, but the protagonists rarely consumed what they sold: in the games GTA 5 and Online bong were present as an optional element, confined to the apartment of the player and not transportable in the rest of the map. The card also confirms what emerged from the previous Australian classification, namely the presence of explicit sex scenes. The text describes strong sexual issues, nudity, scenes of relationships and occasional references to fetishisms; in nightclubs, you can pay for private dances during which the player can physically interact with dancers. A level of interactivity reminiscent of the Hot Coffee controversy of San Andreas, but this time as expected and classified content. Further information has also been provided on the front of violence: the PEGI reports that players can hit any character in the environment with a "high degree of realism", while some weapons cause particularly serious damage, including beheading and dismemberment represented in a very detailed manner. This is consistent with Rockstar's commitment to simulation, which has repeatedly underlined systems redesigned from zero, starting with weather. For the North American market, ESRB has assigned to the game Mature 17+, with descriptors ranging from blood and intense violence to strong language, nudity and use of drugs and alcohol. For the Italian and European market, PEGI 18 means a sale reserved for seniors and digital store controls, as well as the reopening of the political debate on video game content close to the launch.
