GTA VI Preorders: Microsoft Smentisce Squilibrio a PlayStation Favor

Microsoft strongly responded to an article by The Verge that highlighted an alleged imbalance in the preorders of GTA 6 in favor of PlayStation 5 compared to the Xbox Series X|S. The replica arrived on September 24 on X (Twitter) by Matthew Ball, chief strategy officer of the Redmond games division, a few hours after the publication of the report signed by Tom Warren. The article highlighted the gap between the two platforms, giving it to recent dismissals and reorganization of the studies decided by Microsoft. Ball denied this interpretation, stating: “Tom, we are very pleased with the preorders of GTA VI. The title is reaching impressive records on Xbox and we predict that these records will continue to grow during the fall. Our internal analysis shows that the share of preorders is in line with our share of the console market.” The manager does not deny Sony's advantage, but reinterprets it in proportional terms to the installed console base. No specific preorder numbers have been provided. Sensor Tower estimates give PlayStation 77% of preorders (about 4.35 million copies and 426 million dollars), while Xbox holds 23% (1.3 million copies and 128 million dollars). This ratio above 3:1 reflects the increased spread of the PS5, which exceeded 95 million units sold on June 30, compared to the less popular Xbox console sales situation. A significant factor is the trade agreement between Sony and Rockstar Games. The gameplay sequences shown so far have been mainly focused on the PS5 version, which is the protagonist of promotional materials and packaging with the claim "Plays Best on PS5". In addition, there is a custom interface developed for the Sony console, insights dedicated to the DualSense speaker and aptic feedback and even a PlayStation app icon redesigned with the colors of the game. This set of elements amplifies the alleged advantage of Sony. In the background, the "reset" led by Asha Sharma, led by Xbox from February, which in July started the widest renovation in the brand's history: about 3,200 places less within the fiscal year 2027 and the sale of four studies. According to The Verge, this operation could prelude to a more autonomous division or even a scorpion. The final verdict on the preorders will be known on 19 November, the release date of GTA VI on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
